Here's to a red-lucky week (and golden rabbit year)!

Time-Saving Tips for Outlook

His shiny head blinks in bright magenta, stretched towards the sun. Now, the male Anna's hummingbird starts his dive.
Faster and faster, he descends. The shiny head has turned into a daring fireball. The female birds look impressed: in relation to body length, Calypte anna is the fastest flying creature.
Want to impress colleagues and self with your speed, too? How about being the fastest flying Outlook?
›› You spend time aplenty in Outlook. Don't waste it. Change defaults to what you prefer; use a keyboard shortcut or two; employ filters; make sure Outlook itself runs at maximum speed, and more.

Valentine's Day Dance - Free Email Stationery and E-Card

Valentine's Day Dance - Free Email Stationery Download and E-CardThink Bavaria. Saw Lederhosen?
Now, there's a special kind of Lederhose, old and oily overall, called "Schloghosn" made expressly for Schuhplatteln. You may know the dance as groups patting their thighs, knees and soles in sync.
More traditionally, though, Schuhplattler had the girl twist in a ¾ time while the boy danced around her bound by rhythm but not by rules. He free-styled, stomped, jumped, clapped his hands and, yes, patted thighs, knees and soles — all to impress and charm her, and to win her admiration if not her heart:

Send Chinese New Year's Greeting Cards

To transfer big sums, say between banks or large merchants, Ming and Qing Dynasty Chinese shipped little ships of silver or maybe gold; to accumulate wealth, they stored those silver ingots (which also look a bit like smiling mouths) in a safe place.
To attract wealth, they ate dumplings.
To this day, jiǎozi are the perfect New Year's food. Delicious like ravioli, they make mouths smile. Shaped like little ships, they're bound to attract those other little ships, the silver ingots. So, let's grab a bite — and an e-card, too, if you fancy:
›› In the time-tested Chinese calendar, the new year (February 3, 2011, is the year of the rabbit's first day) usually begins with the second new moon after the winter solstice — and with 15 days of celebrations. Join the abundance of joy with greetings chanted out loud and sent via email. Here are Chinese New Year email greeting cards for all these days and more.

Find and Open Your Windows Live Mail Stationery Folder

The more syllables, the more ornate:
Doric (2) columns are plain and massive, shafts with a circle and then a square on top;
Ionic (3) columns are tall and curly, poles crowned by scrolls on two sides;
Corinthian (4) columns, finally, are decorative and flowery, stems with leaves and blooms and scrolls on top to boot.
Now that we have identified the classical orders of architecture, how about identifying the contemporary folder of stationery?
›› Where to put all that stationery? Start with the folder where Windows Live Mail looks for it by default.

AwayFind - Inbox Escape with iPhone Push and Gmail Add-On

AwayFind - Email Productivity and Notification ServiceAwayFind, the service for checking email at your leisure and still let people reach you with urgent issues, has become a bit more complicated and a lot more powerful. AwayFind can now watch your IMAP and Exchange email accounts for messages your rules tell it are important and notify you via iPhone app, voice call, SMS, etc.
The iPhone app and a Gmail add-on make it easy to set up simple rules, and the AwayFind page lets you build quite refined ones to boot.
›› AwayFind lets you use email normally — checking maybe twice a day — while urgent messages are still rushed to you, via iPhone notification or SMS even.

Dreams - Free Email Stationery Download and E-Card

Dreams - Free Email Stationery Download and E-Card"To make this trivial world sublime," Aldous Huxley wrote to the psychiatrist who had handed him a pinch of a peyote cactus's juicy bits, "take half a gram of phanerothyme."
The word the poet coined there at the end for perception-altering drugs, alas, did not stick; Humphrey Osmond, the psychiatrist, wrote back: "To fathom Hell or soar angelic, just take a pinch of psychedelic."
Speaking of angelic soars, how about dreamy phanorethymic background for your emails?

Hide Ads and Make More Room for a Message You View in Yahoo!

Electronically!
For "less than 1¢ a day," General Electric promised, you'll "get rid of unpleasant odors electronically."
It was a new lamp they advertised, shining not only visible but also ultraviolet light. That light turned some of the oxygen in the air around into ozone — a highly reactive gas that keeps swimming pools clean, of course, and burns up odors in the air fast, too. Nursery, bed- or bathroom, the ozone lamp keeps "every room fresh and sweet-smelling."
The ozone itself is poisonous, of course, if the lamp is on too long; the ultraviolet light is dangerous, too, if you look directly into it. Luckily, you don't need an ozone lamp to keep Yahoo! Mail fresh and make room for your emails' full width, getting rid of the advertising space for a while — electronically!

How to Post Messages and Photos to Google Buzz via Email

View not unique enough for a photo worth sharing? A coke bottle or martini glass in sight, you can render the light in your image intriguing: send it through the bottle and maybe the liquid to boot.
Browser not close enough to share your image with Buzz on the spot? A messaging program in reach, you can make your post instantaneous: send it through email, attaching the photo to boot:

Nominate Your Favorite Email Programs - The 2011 Readers' Choice Awards

Nominate Your Favorite Email Programs, Services and Innovations — The 2011 Readers' Choice AwardsSomething that produces electricity when heated it was not; when Bruce Cook, Alan Russell and their fellow researchers at the Ames Laboratory tried to curl, cut and carve their newly crafted material, they found something else, though: it wouldn't.
Dubbed BAM, the alloy from boron, aluminum and magnesium is exceptionally hard — if you can get a hold of it: BAM is also super slippery with less friction than, say, graphite, diamond or teflon.
Now, that's from 1999 and slippery; what's from 2010/11 and sticky? To what email programs and services do you cling? What new email features will you remember?

Swan - Free Email Stationery Download and E-Card

Swan - Free Email Stationery Download and E-CardI saw a swan recently. It swam, but only with one leg. The other was tucked under its right wing.
One theory tells me something was wrong with the swan's temperature. Not covered by feathers, a swan's feet and legs are its air conditioning: they lose heat like a human's head, hand and feet; they soak up the sun like a lizard's back.
The swans in this stationery don't look cold — but their surroundings sure do:
›› Stationery of beautifully animated swans. (Windows Mail, Windows Live Mail, Outlook, Outlook Express)

Import Contacts to Yahoo! Mail from Gmail, Facebook, etc.

When you become famous and people start to admire you, "tear off your garments" and hurtle your best Archimedes impersonation through the streets. If some still follow you around and call you teacher or guru, do this: "drive them away, striking them with your fists and pelting them with clods of earth and stones".
When Dio Chrysostom commanded that some 2000 years ago, he did not know Archimedes, of course, or Brian from Nazareth. He knew, though, that giving in to the lures of fame makes you a vassal to that passion — and to whatever could bring or threaten it. You're not free any more, and free you should be.
Your address book should also be free, of course; free from any individual email service and network; free to follow you around, say to Yahoo! Mail:
›› You compose your emails in Yahoo! Mail but your addresses are in Gmail, Windows Live Hotmail or Facebook maybe? Here's how to import names and addresses and other contact information swiftly into Yahoo! Mail.

How to Disable Google Buzz in Gmail

Pick a number between 2 and 9. Say it out loud. Now start counting, also aloud: "One".
It's my turn: "Two". Now, whenever we reach a multiple of the number you picked, we'll not say that number. We'll shout "Buzz!" instead. All right?
Let's say you picked 3: 1, 2, Buzz!, 4, 5, Buzz!, 7, 8, Buzz!, 10, 11, twe... Oh, looks like I'm out — out, out as Buzz can be out of Gmail:
›› Prefer Gmail without the social headaches of Google Buzz? Here's how to disable Buzz in Gmail and remove it from your account.
